Baksa panchayats get digital service centres, bringing government services closer to villages
Twenty panchayats to be covered in the first phase
Work began this week on setting up digital service centres across panchayats in Baksa district. Twenty panchayats will be covered in the first phase.
"Until now, villagers had to travel into town for things like birth certificates or income certificates. These centres will remove that distance entirely," a panchayat department official said.
"Earlier, getting one certificate used to eat up a whole day. If we can get it in the village now, it saves both time and money," one villager said.
Each centre will have at least one internet-connected computer and a trained operator to help villagers use the online services.
District officials say all panchayats in the district will be brought under the scheme within the next six months.
