Land-levelling work began this week on a new industrial estate planned for Tamulpur. The district industries department says the project will prioritise food processing and bamboo-based industries.

"Once complete, we expect this estate to create around two thousand direct and indirect jobs. That should reduce the need for local youth to migrate for work," a department official said.

"Tamulpur has a good supply of bamboo, so we're keen to set up a bamboo-furniture manufacturing unit here," one prospective investor said.

In its first phase, infrastructure will be built on around fifty bighas of land, with reliable power, water and road connectivity.

District officials say the first ten units are expected to begin production within the coming year.
