New Logistics Hub Planned Near Guwahati to Ease Cargo Movement
Warehousing and cold-storage facilities to sit under one roof
Plans for a new logistics hub on Guwahati's outskirts were announced this week, combining warehousing, cold storage and cargo-sorting facilities under one roof. The project is a joint effort between the state's trade department and a private group.
Officials say traders currently have to move goods across several separate locations, adding both time and cost. The new hub is expected to consolidate much of that into a single site.
A representative of the trade group said vegetable and fruit traders in particular stand to benefit from the cold-storage capacity. "Right now, a lot of our produce spoils in transit," he said.
Construction is expected to begin in the first half of next year and take roughly two years to complete.
