Representatives from countries across the Brahmaputra river basin have gathered for a regional summit centred on water-data sharing and joint flood-control measures.
In the opening session, speakers stressed the need for faster sharing of upstream rainfall data so that downstream regions can receive earlier flood warnings.
Experts cautioned that climate change has made rainfall patterns across the basin increasingly unpredictable, raising the stakes for a coordinated forecasting system.
The three-day summit is expected to close with a joint declaration outlining an initial framework for data exchange, organisers said.
